A group of criminals posing as Income Tax officials allegedly robbed a contractor’s house in Dhar on Friday, making away with around 50 tolas of gold jewellery and several lakh rupees in cash, according to the police.
The incident took place at around 9:30 am in Brahman Mohalla of Bag area, which is located nearly 100 kilometres from the district headquarters. Police said a gang of seven to eight individuals arrived at the residence of contractor Rajkumar Malviya, who works with the Madhya Pradesh Madhya Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company Limited.
The suspects came in a white SUV without a number plate and introduced themselves as officials conducting a raid based on a complaint about the presence of black money in the house. Two members of the gang were reportedly dressed in khaki uniforms, which helped them appear convincing.
After entering the house, the group allegedly forced open cupboards and searched the premises before fleeing with about 50 tolas of gold jewellery, several lakh rupees in cash, and mobile phones. One tola is approximately 11.6 grams.
Speaking to reporters, Superintendent of Police Mayank Awasthi said that police teams have been formed to track down the suspects. The Crime Branch has also joined the investigation.
Authorities said the exact value of the stolen gold and cash will be determined once the family completes a detailed assessment of their losses. Police are currently reviewing leads and gathering evidence to identify and arrest the accused.
