A 20-year-old woman from Nalasopara, a township in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, has alleged rape by an auto-rickshaw driver, leading to his arrest. However, police investigations suggest a more complex situation.

The incident reportedly began when the woman and the driver went to Arnala Beach, around 12 km from her residence, planning to spend the night together. Denied entry to a hotel due to the lack of a valid ID, they stayed on the beach. According to the woman’s account, she was raped there, after which the driver fled.

Fearing her parents’ anger and potential punishment for spending the night away and being assaulted, the woman took extreme steps. She is believed to have inserted stones and a surgical blade into her body. The police claim she bought the blade near the Nalasopara railway station, where she sought refuge after the incident.

Experiencing pain and severe bleeding, she contacted local authorities, who filed a rape case against the driver and provided her medical assistance. However, during questioning, discrepancies in her account emerged. She initially claimed to be an orphan from Varanasi living under her uncle’s care. Police later discovered she lived with her family in Nalasopara.

The woman’s father also revealed that she had previously filed two rape complaints in 2023 at Nirmal Nagar and Shivaji Nagar police stations in Mumbai. Authorities suspect she may be struggling with mental health challenges.

The case remains under investigation, with the police working to uncover the full story behind this distressing series of events.
