The United States has carried out a major bombing operation on Kharg Island in Iran, with U.S. President Donald Trump claiming that every military installation on the island was “totally obliterated.”

In a post on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump said the strike was ordered by him and described it as one of the most powerful bombing raids conducted in the West Asian region. He also stated that Iran’s plans to dominate the region and destroy Israel were now “dead,” adding that those ambitions had collapsed just like Iran itself.

According to Trump, the operation was carried out by United States Central Command and specifically targeted military facilities on Kharg Island. He emphasized that U.S. forces deliberately avoided striking oil infrastructure on the island.

Kharg Island is widely regarded as Iran’s economic lifeline, as it handles nearly 90 percent of the country’s crude oil exports. Much of Iran’s oil is sold to Asian markets, particularly China, making the island crucial to Iran’s financial stability. Any disruption to operations there could significantly impact the country’s economy and its ability to fund military activities.

The island also has major strategic importance due to its location near the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes. U.S. officials have previously accused Iran of using facilities on the island to coordinate drone and missile attacks against international shipping in the Gulf.

Iran responded swiftly to the attack. Through its central military command, the Iranian armed forces warned on March 14 that any further strikes on its energy infrastructure would trigger retaliation against oil and energy facilities across the region, particularly those linked to companies cooperating with the United States.

Tehran has also reportedly escalated cyber and infrastructure operations, publishing a list of potential targets that includes major American technology companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, and Oracle Corporation. Reports suggest that drone attacks have already been launched against certain data centers in parts of the region as tensions continue to rise.
