Virender Sehwag is one of the few stars who never hesitates to call a spade a spade. In a recent discussion, he stated that he declined an English broadcaster’s request to include him on its panel. He made the revelation while speaking with Australian cricket legend Adam Gilchrist. Sky Sports wanted to have Sehwag on its panel, but the commercial agreement evolved into a funny conversation once the ex-India opener revealed the fee he would charge.
“So I received a call from Sky Sports saying, ‘We’d love to have you on our panel.'” I replied, ‘But you can’t afford me’. But they responded, ‘No, give me your price’,” Sehwag stated on the Club Prairie Fire podcast.
“I answered, ‘You can’t afford me,’ but they insisted, ‘Please give us the price’. Then I said, ‘GBP 10,000 a day’, and they responded, ‘Yes, you’re right, we can’t’,” Sehwag added.
During the same encounter, Sehwag stated that he was once promised $100,000 by a BBL franchise but turned it down.
Gilchrist opened the debate by asking Sehwag if Indian players would ever compete in the Big Bash League. Sehwag, in a funny manner, stated that there is no need because Indian cricketers have a lot of money.
