Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins defended his high-risk, high-reward strategy after falling 35 runs short against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the current Indian Premier League 2024. When Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma appear to the crease to start the innings for SRH, supporters expect fireworks from the left-handed duo’s bat. However, this time, RCB made an early breakthrough by removing the duo on the powerplay to reduce the damage. The middle order bowed under the strain, allowing RCB bowlers to command the pace of the game.

After losing, Cummins defended his team’s attitude this season, believing that SRH’s strength rests in its aggressive style of cricket.

“Not a good night. Few were over average with the ball, and we lost a few wickets during our innings. I believe that is our strong strength (attacking cricket). It won’t work in every game. We still managed to earn a solid total despite a few games when things didn’t go our way at first. “I still believe this is the way forward for our boys,” Cummins remarked following the game.

“The players have been doing quite well; yet, in T20 cricket, you cannot win every game. Don’t linger on this too long. “I speak after wins; Dan (Vettori) speaks after losses,” Cummins remarked.

One of the primary elements in SRH’s success this season has been batting first and setting record-breaking numbers.

They have beaten the IPL record for highest scoring twice this season. However, this time the coin benefited RCB captain Faf du Plessis, who chose SRH to bowl, which was not Cummins’ first option.

“We were going to bat first, and it appears to be working for us.” Before the previous several wins, we thought we were a bowl-first squad. Didn’t go our way,” Cummins said.
