In the early hours of Monday, a powerful earthquake struck the Delhi-NCR region, causing widespread panic among residents. Many described the tremors as unprecedented, with concerns that buildings might collapse.
A resident from Noida recalled the terrifying moment, stating that people in his society rushed out of their homes in sheer panic.
“At 5:35 AM, the entire building started shaking. My family and I ran outside in fear. I have never experienced such intense tremors before. Thankfully, we are all safe,” he told ANI.
Anil Kumar, a resident of Sita Ram Bazar, also shared his experience with PTI, emphasizing that he had never encountered such tremors before.
“When I woke up, I felt strong vibrations and got scared. My wife and I immediately woke up our child and rushed outside,” Kumar said.
“As a heart patient, the panic was even worse for me,” he added.
Meanwhile, a passenger waiting for his train at New Delhi Railway Station described the alarming moment when he felt the tremors inside the waiting lounge.
“At around 5:36 AM, I suddenly felt strong tremors. It seemed as if the bridge before me would collapse,” he recounted to ANI.
Similarly, a resident from Ghaziabad shared his fear, stating, “The tremors were extremely strong. I have never experienced anything like this before. The entire building was shaking.”
Leaders React to Delhi-NCR Earthquake
Following the earthquake, AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal expressed his concerns and prayed for everyone’s safety. Reposting Delhi’s caretaker CM Atishi’s message on X, he wrote, “I pray for the safety of everyone.”
Atishi also urged people to stay safe and calm, saying, “A strong earthquake just hit Delhi. I pray to God that everyone is safe.”
PM Modi’s Advisory After the Earthquake
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to X to advise Delhi residents to remain calm and follow safety precautions in light of the 4.0-magnitude earthquake that struck the region.
“Tremors were felt in Delhi and nearby areas. Urging everyone to stay calm and follow safety precautions while remaining alert for possible aftershocks. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation,” PM Modi stated.
Epicenter and Details of the Earthquake
According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake, which registered a magnitude of 4.0 on the Richter scale, struck Delhi-NCR at a depth of 5 km. The tremors were strongly felt at 5:36 AM, with the epicenter identified in the Jheel Park area of Dhaula Kuan. Some residents also reported hearing a loud sound as the ground shook.
