On Friday, the Supreme Court dismissed a plea submitted by former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren as infructuous. Hemant Soren asked the high court to rule on his plea contesting his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case. When the supreme court upheld Hemant Soren’s detention on May 3, the plea became ineffective.

“This has become infructuous,” a panel of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta warned senior attorneys Kapil Sibal and Arunabh Chowdhury, who represented Hemant Soren.

The JMM leader has already contested the high court ruling, and the Supreme Court is set to hear the case on May 13.

“Forget that he was a previous chief minister. “I (Soren) have the right as a citizen to be treated fairly by the high court,” Sibal stated.

“You challenged the high court order in another petition. “You argue there,” the judges remarked, rejecting his request.
