New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been sent to jail for 14 days under the custody of the Central Bureau Investigation (CBI). The CBI said it needs Mr Arvind Kejriwal’s customer in the interest of investigation and fairness.

The special judge Sunena Sharma had taken the order Mr Kejriwal was brought to the court after his three days of CBI custody ended.

In the detention application, the CBI claimed that Mr Arvind Kejriwal had not collaborated and gave equivocal replies to them.

“On being challenged with the evidence, he did not give a proper and sincere explanation regarding the increase of margin from 5 percent to 12 percent under the new excise policy of Delhi 2021-2022 without any inspection and study,” CBI said.

He also could not explain why at the peak of the second wave of COVID this policy took into existence, the cabinet approval for revised excise policy was hurriedly obtained through circulation in a hurried manner within one day, when the accused person of the south group was camping in Delhi and meeting with close associate Vijay Nair”, the CBI said.

The Central Bureau Investigation CBI claimed Mr. Kejriwal avoided questions at meetings about his associate Vijay Nair. Mr. Kejriwal was unable to give a proper explanation about his meeting with Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy, Arjun Pandey and Mootha Gautham.

“He is a well-known politician and chief minister of Delhi, is a very powerful person, as such, there are so many acceptable reasons to believe that, he must have Influenced the witnesses and evidence already exposed before him during the custodial interrogation and also potential witnesses, who are yet to be examined”

Mr. Kejriwal was first arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 over a money laundering case.

Mr. Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have maintained from the start that the Centre has been misusing its agencies to harass the Opposition with false cases.
