Ajay Kumar Bhalla Sworn In As Manipur Governor

Ajay Kumar Bhalla, the former Union Home Secretary, was sworn in as the 19th Governor of Manipur during a ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan on Friday.

The oath of office was administered by Justice D Krishnakumar, Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur. Following the ceremony, Mr. Bhalla inspected a guard of honor presented by the Manipur Rifles personnel.

Mr. Bhalla, renowned as the longest-serving Union Home Secretary, concluded his five-year tenure in August last year. A retired IAS officer from the 1984 Assam-Meghalaya cadre, he brings extensive experience to his new role.

President Droupadi Murmu appointed Bhalla as the Governor of Manipur last month. Prior to his appointment, Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya held the additional charge of Manipur.

Mr. Bhalla arrived in Imphal on Thursday, where he was welcomed at the Raj Bhavan by Chief Minister N Biren Singh during a reception.
