AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal today revealed plans to provide 24-hour water supply across Delhi ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections next year. He announced that the initiative has already started in the Rajendra Nagar area of the city.
“Good news! From today, 24-hour water supply has started in a colony in Rajendra Nagar. Soon, it will be available citywide,” said Kejriwal.
This announcement is part of a broader set of welfare measures recently introduced by the AAP. The party has rolled out the Sanjeevani Yojana, which offers free medical treatment to Delhi residents aged 60 and above. Registration for the scheme has begun in the Jangpura assembly constituency, where AAP has fielded its former deputy chief minister, Manish Sisodia, as a candidate for the upcoming elections.
“Under the Sanjeevani Yojana, if senior citizens above 60 fall ill, whether they go to a government or private hospital, the Delhi government will cover the full cost of their treatment,” Kejriwal said. He noted that the scheme could benefit around 20-25 lakh elderly residents in Delhi.
Kejriwal also mentioned the positive response to the Mahila Samman Yojana, which provides a monthly allowance of Rs 2,100 to women in Delhi. Within hours of its launch, approximately 2.5 lakh women had registered for the scheme.
Additionally, AAP has introduced the Dr Ambedkar Scholarship, aimed at supporting higher education for Dalit students, though details on its budget and implementation are still awaited.
In the 2020 Assembly elections, AAP won a decisive victory, securing 62 out of 70 seats, while the BJP managed just eight. With elections slated for early 2025, both parties are intensifying their efforts to win over voters.
