A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established by the Calcutta High Court to look into the death of IIT Kharagpur student Faizan Ahmed. This is in response to the second autopsy on Faizan Ahmed’s body mentioning homicidal injuries received before death.

Additionally, the judge permitted a narco test on anyone who the SIT believed might be connected to the case.

“For the sake of expediency, the newly established inquiry team may appoint officers. Given the fresh information contained in the second post-mortem report, the court ruled that all parties involved in the investigation had to cooperate.

Following the discovery of multiple flaws in the first autopsy by a court-appointed expert, Faizan’s body was excavated in Assam on the instructions of the Calcutta High Court around three weeks ago.

A team of West Bengal police transported the body to Kolkata, where a court-appointed specialist performed the second autopsy.

A second post-mortem is “vital and necessary for determining the truth,” the top court stated when it issued the order for the remains to be exhumed.

On October 14 of last year, Faizan Ahmed was discovered dead in a dormitory on campus. The family claimed that he had been murdered, despite the college authorities’ claims that it was a case of suicide.

His relatives testified before the court that ragging drove him to suicide and that the management of IIT-Kharagpur ignored his complaints. “It was a clear case of murder,” they declared.

The high court has already censured the director of IIT-Kharagpur, which is situated in West Bengal’s Paschim Medinipur district.

He had received a reprimand from the court on December 1 for failing to act on a ragging accusation, which was followed by the student’s passing.
