Influence with Influencers

While Indian films and actors did not secure major wins at the Oscars 2026, Indian fashion designers made a remarkable impact on the global stage. The prestigious awards ceremony saw several international celebrities walk the red carpet in stunning couture from luxury houses such as Dior, Chanel, Gucci and Givenchy.

Amid the dominance of global fashion labels, a few celebrities chose creations by leading Indian designers, bringing attention to India’s growing influence in international fashion. Designers like Sabyasachi, Rahul Mishra and Gaurav Gupta once again proved their global appeal as their couture and high jewellery appeared on some of the biggest stars of the night.

Rei Ami Wears Rahul Mishra Couture

Singer Rei Ami, who attended the ceremony after K-Pop: Demon Hunter won two Oscars for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song, wore a handcrafted couture piece by Rahul Mishra. Her look featured a shimmering little black dress paired with an oversized black jacket and a long sheer train adorned with ruffle details. She completed the elegant ensemble with a centre-parted updo, statement earrings and black footwear.

Li Jun Li Stuns in Gaurav Gupta

Actor Li Jun Li, who played Grace Chow in the film Sinners, turned heads in a striking Gaurav Gupta creation. The film received 16 nominations and won four Oscars. Li Jun Li wore a sculpted red gown titled Inner Flame, which featured a satin corset top with an architectural drape paired with a high-slit satin skirt and lace-up detailing. The design was originally presented in Gupta’s Spring/Summer 2026 couture collection in Paris.

Sabyasachi High Jewellery on the Red Carpet

Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee also made a statement with his exquisite high jewellery pieces worn by several Hollywood celebrities.

  • Rachel McAdams elevated her look with 18K gold earrings featuring morganite and brilliant-cut diamonds, along with an 18K gold sapphire and diamond ring by Sabyasachi.
  • Ginnifer Goodwin paired her black strapless sculpted gown with a striking 18K gold necklace adorned with emerald, mint tourmaline and diamonds from Sabyasachi’s jewellery collection.
  • Rhea Seehorn also opted for Sabyasachi High Jewellery at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party, wearing an 18K gold piece featuring mint amethyst and brilliant-cut diamonds.

Tamron Hall in Bibhu Mohapatra

Television host Tamron Hall impressed on the red carpet in a custom Bibhu Mohapatra gown. The ivory cady column gown featured delicate Odisha ikat embroidery, a traditional Indian textile craft. The design was paired with dramatic stone faille angel wings, adding a striking visual element to the silhouette.

The designer noted that such moments celebrate not only red carpet glamour but also highlight the fusion of heritage craftsmanship, contemporary design and the personalities who bring these creations to life.

Although Indian cinema continues its journey toward stronger representation at the Oscars, Indian designers are increasingly making their mark at global events, proving that India’s fashion craftsmanship is gaining widespread international recognition.
