India has seen 752 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, which is more than twice as many as cases that were reported yesterday. During this time, four related deaths were reported, compared to just one yesterday.
Yesterday saw 328 new cases across the nation, including 265 from Kerala alone, and one death. Reports of the death came from the southern state as well.
According to the health ministry dashboard, there are currently 3,420 active cases in India, up 423 from yesterday’s total of 2,997 cases.
Health professionals and authorities are concerned about JN.1, a novel variant that is responsible for the most recent spike in infections. According to news agency PTI, there have been up to 21 cases of the variant discovered in Goa and one in Kerala so far.
In the past day, Kerala, which has been responsible for a significant portion of the cases reported nationwide, reported 565 new cases of COVID-19. There are 2,872 active cases in the state at this time.
After months, Noida has also announced its first case of COVID-19, involving a 54-year-old resident who works in Gurugram who tested positive.
