Govinda’s wife, Sunita Ahuja, recently opened up about their marriage and the personality quirks of her actor-husband, revealing several interesting anecdotes from their early days together. In an interview with Hindi Rush, she reminisced about her tomboyish style when she first met Govinda, wearing short hair and skirts. Govinda often teased her about her appearance, playfully calling her a boy. “He wanted me to wear sarees all the time. I didn’t like him initially because he was quite old-fashioned,” she shared.
Sunita also disclosed that she made the first move in their relationship since Govinda was too shy to even touch women. Despite their long-standing marriage, she admitted that romance wasn’t his strong suit in real life. “I don’t know if he has become romantic now—you can never trust men! People change like chameleons. It’s been 37 years of marriage; where would he go? He never wandered before, but now I’m not so sure,” she remarked with a touch of sarcasm.
Addressing their living arrangements, Sunita revealed they mostly stay in separate residences. Govinda often stays at his bungalow because he loves late-night chats and meetings, while she prefers the calm of their apartment with their children. “We have two houses. He enjoys talking so much that he’ll gather a group and chat for hours, while I stay with my son and daughter in the flat. But we barely talk—I feel it’s a waste of energy to talk too much,” she explained.
When asked about Govinda’s romantic gestures, Sunita chuckled, “I’ve told him he shouldn’t be my husband in my next life. He never goes on vacations. I dream of simple outings like eating pani-puri on the street with my husband. He was always working. I can’t remember a single time we went to watch a movie together.”
Reflecting on how her sense of security in their marriage has evolved, Sunita mentioned she felt more at ease when Govinda worked with actresses like Raveena Tandon and Karisma Kapoor. Now, however, she feels more cautious. “Back then, I felt secure. Now? Not so much,” she laughed. “After 60, people start losing their senses. He’s past 60—you never know what he’s up to!” she added humorously.
