For the previous eight months, the seasoned leader was fighting cancer. According to hospital sources, he passed away around 9:45 p.m.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his sympathy letter that Sushil Modi was crucial to the BJP’s ascent and triumph in Bihar. Being a staunch opponent of the Emergency, he gained notoriety in student politics. He was regarded as a kind and industrious MLA. He was quite knowledgeable about political matters. He performed a great deal of admirable work as an administrator as well. The Prime Minister wrote on X that “his active role in the passage of GST will always be remembered.”

Sushil Modi, one of the three well-known products of the J P Movement, along with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD leader Lalu Prasad, was seen to be the tallest BJP politician in Bihar following Kailashpati Mishra.

In the 1990s, he is frequently credited for making the BJP a powerful force in the state, which led to its emergence as the main opposition party in 1995. He played a pivotal role in establishing close relations with NDA ally and JD(U) chairman Nitish, who frequently attributed the state’s economic recovery to him.

Sushil Modi, who comes from an ABVP background, became an MLA for the first time in 1990. He took over and defeated the RJD on his own when Yashwant Sinha resigned as Leader of the Opposition in 1996. He was one of five petitioners involved in the fodder scandal that resulted in Lalu Prasad’s conviction.
