In a serious escalation along the western border, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed on Friday that Pakistan used fighter jets to target Indian military sites. Adding to the aggression, high-speed missiles were launched by Pakistan at an Indian Air Force base in Punjab. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri described Pakistan’s actions as “escalatory and provocatory,” stressing that India has responded in a “responsible and measured” manner.
Briefing the media on the ongoing situation, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi revealed that the Pakistani Army has been persistently attacking India’s western front using a variety of advanced military assets. “They have deployed drones, long-range weapons, loitering munitions, and fighter aircraft to strike Indian military installations,” she said.
Qureshi added that although India has successfully neutralised many threats, Pakistan attempted aerial infiltrations at over 26 locations. These attacks caused damage to equipment and personnel at key air force bases, including Udhampur, Bhuj, Pathankot, and Bathinda. “At 1:40 AM, high-speed missiles were fired specifically targeting the air base in Punjab. Alarmingly, even health facilities and schools were not spared,” she noted.
Wing Commander Vyomika Singh provided details of India’s counter-response, stating that the Indian Armed Forces conducted precision strikes solely on identified military targets. She also accused Pakistan of waging a coordinated misinformation campaign. “Pakistan falsely claimed the destruction of the Indian S-400 missile system and the decimation of airfields in Surat and Sirsa. India unequivocally rejects these fabricated claims,” she asserted.
Reiterating India’s stance, Foreign Secretary Misri emphasized that it was Pakistan’s aggression that triggered the heightened tensions. “India has only acted in defense. Our response has been calibrated and mature, in line with international norms,” he said. Misri also warned of a consistent pattern of provocations from Pakistan, highlighting a fresh round of hostilities that occurred earlier this morning.
