In a worrying development, Indian intelligence agencies have sounded an alert about Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) allegedly planning a series of targeted attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. According to a report by India Today, the ISI is believed to be directing terror outfits to strike Kashmiri Pandits, non-local residents, and personnel of the Jammu and Kashmir Police — particularly those affiliated with the Crime Investigation Department (CID). The focus of these planned attacks is said to be concentrated in the Srinagar and Ganderbal districts.
Intelligence inputs suggest that terrorist organisations remain active across North, Central, and South Kashmir. Notably, there are growing concerns about the vulnerability of railway infrastructure in the Valley. Security agencies have advised restricting the movement of railway security personnel to reduce exposure and potential risk.
The heightened threat level comes on the heels of the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, where militants opened fire on tourists in the Baisaran Valley, resulting in the tragic deaths of 26 individuals. The Resistance Front (TRF), a shadow outfit of the banned terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the massacre. Intelligence suggests more such attacks are being plotted, with a specific focus on security forces and non-local civilians.
A day prior to the Pahalgam attack, intelligence sources reported spotting a local terrorist, Hasher Parray from Bandipora, along with an over ground worker (OGW), moving suspiciously from Kreeri Village towards the Pattan Railway Track in Baramulla. The duo was allegedly carrying small firearms and is suspected to be involved in planned assaults on security personnel.
In response to the looming threat, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has temporarily closed down 48 of the 87 designated tourist destinations across the Valley. This includes scenic spots like Yousmarg, Doodpathri, Aharbal, Kousarnag, Bangus Valley, Wular/Watlab, Rampora, Rajpora, Sinthan Top, Margantop, Verinag Garden, Habba Khatoon Point, Babareshi, and Akad Park.
Several popular hotels and resorts — such as Padshapal Resorts, Cherry Tree Resort, Eco Village Resort, and Forest Hill Cottage — have also been shut down as a precaution. Additionally, recreational activities like paragliding at Astanmarg View Point and visits to heritage sites including the Buddhist Monastery and Dachigam (beyond the Trout Farm) have been suspended.
The security forces remain on high alert, with intensified surveillance and preventive deployments being carried out across sensitive areas to thwart any potential threats. The situation continues to be closely monitored.
