Vinod Sahani, an accused in a 2016 robbery and murder case, was arrested by Delhi Police in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. Sahani had been on the run since 2020 after jumping bail, which he was granted during the Covid-19 pandemic, according to a report by news agency IANS.

The original crime occurred on June 16, 2016, when five robbers broke into a farmhouse in DLF Chattarpur, South Delhi, and stole valuables. During the robbery, they killed Rohan Gupta, a 39-year-old businessman, who tried to resist. The robbers were captured when a neighbor alerted the police after hearing noises from the farmhouse. The accused faced multiple charges, including murder and robbery.

Sahani, along with several other prisoners, received bail during the pandemic. However, he did not return to jail after his bail period expired. In December 2022, after authorities were unable to locate him, Sahani was declared a Proclaimed Offender.

The task of locating Sahani was assigned to the Anti-Robbery and Snatching Cell of the Delhi Police Crime Branch. Acting on a tip-off that Sahani was hiding near Muzaffarpur, informers were deployed to monitor his movements. The police received information that Sahani would be traveling on the highway, which led to his capture.

During questioning, Sahani revealed that he had been living in a shack and working as a driver to support himself. He is also facing another case under the Arms Act. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, Amit Goel, commended the team for apprehending the fugitive, emphasizing the Delhi Police’s commitment to bringing those who evade the law to justice.
