An individual who shot wanted mobster Chhota Shakeel 25 years ago has been detained in connection with a murder case, according to a Mumbai Police official.
Laik Ahmed Fida Hussain Sheikh, 50, is the named of the apprehended suspect.

“Laik Ahmed Fida Hussain Sheikh (50), the Chhota Shakeel gang’s shooter, was apprehended by Pydhonie Police on July 28 from close to Thane railway station. Sheikh is charged with killing a member of the Chhota Rajan gang, an organised crime group that has been apprehended, the official said on Friday.

On the evening of April 2, 1997, the accused and his associates shot and killed Munna Dhari, a member of the don Chhota Rajan gang, who had been apprehended. According to the source, Sheikh was detained by the police after they filed a complaint against him under Sections 302, 34 of the IPC and Sections 3, 25 of the Arms Act.

The police official said, “Thereafter, the accused was released on bail by a court in the year 1998.”

The official claimed that the accused Sheikh disappeared in 1998 and did not show up for any court proceedings; as a result, he was labelled an absconder.

Secret sources informed the police that the accused Sheikh resided in Mumbra. They then arrived at the place, but neither he nor anyone else could be seen there. The accused was a taxi driver at the Thane campus, according to information the police also obtained.

According to the official, the police tracked down Sheikh’s whereabouts and captured him on Friday after setting up a trap close to Thane Railway Station.
