As hostilities between the junta-regime and rebel forces in Myanmar rage, hundreds of Myanmar Army personnel are escaping to India. The government of Mizoram has informed the center of the development and asked them to act swiftly to guarantee that the soldiers from the neighboring country are returned.

Amidst violent clashes, nearly 600 soldiers from the Myanmar Army have crossed into India. Following the capture of their camps by militants from the Arakan Army (AA), an ethnic armed group in the western state of Rakhine, Myanmar, they sought sanctuary in the Lawngtlai district of Mizoram, according to government sources. They claimed that an Assam Rifles camp has provided shelter for the soldiers.

At the Northeastern Council meeting in Shillong, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are holding urgent talks as a result of the situation.

According to government sources, Mizoram emphasized the urgency of the Myanmar Army soldiers who have sought safety inside the state being repatriated as soon as possible. This request comes as worries about the rising tension and its potential effects on the stability of the area are becoming more and more pressing.

Following the plenary session, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma provided reporters with an update on the current state of affairs.

“People are seeking refuge in our nation from Myanmar, and we are providing humanitarian aid to them. Burmese soldiers continue to arrive in search of refuge, and in the past, we would send them home by plane. About 450 soldiers were returned, according to Chief Minister Lalduhoma.

The coordinated offensive by three ethnic minority forces in late October, which resulted in the capture of several towns and military posts and the forced evacuation of soldiers, is posing the biggest challenge to Myanmar’s generals since they took control in a coup in 2021.
