When Paris Saint-Germain travels to take on a struggling Auxerre team on Sunday, they will try to move closer to securing the Ligue 1 championship and possibly capture glory. Paris Saint-Germain appear to have recovered from their late-season form dip.
Christophe Galtier’s team leads RC Lens by six points at the top of the Ligue 1 standings with three games remaining. The title chances are heavily in favour of the capital team due to PSG’s superior goal differential; hence, a victory over Auxerre on the night in question should more-or-less ensure them of the championship.
However, if Lens loses to Lorient, who play a few hours earlier, or draws with Auxerre, PSG would have a chance to clinch a record-setting 11th Ligue 1 championship.
Auxerre is engaged in conflict at the opposite end of the table. Since Christophe Pelissier took over, they have amassed a tenacious six-game home unbeaten streak that has enabled them temporarily escape the danger zone.
They are currently one point behind rivals Nantes in the race for the final relegation slot in Ligue 1 rankings, in 16th place. Four teams will be demoted this season, with only two remaining as Ligue 1 will only have 18 clubs by the start of the following season.
The league leaders PSG, who are coming off a commanding 5-0 home victory over AC Ajaccio, will be hoping to get the job done quickly tonight, so the hosts face a formidable battle.
