A 12-year-old girl who had been raped and was bleeding profusely knocked on doors, pleading for assistance. People gawked at her but showed no sign of assisting. She approached a man for assistance and he was spotted shooing her away.

The disturbing images were recorded by a CCTV camera on Badnagar Road in Madhya Pradesh, around 15 kilometres from Ujjain. In a culture where violence against women and children has grown chillingly frequent, the images no longer shock.

The girl eventually found an Ashram after traversing the streets with a rag that barely covered her. There, a priest saw signs of sexual assault, covered her with a towel, and hurried her to the local hospital. Medical testing proved that rape had occurred.

The girl was taken urgently to Indore due to her terrible injuries. She needed blood, and police officers came. We now know that her condition is stable.

The girl was unable to give a clear response when senior police officer Deepika Shinde inquired her name and address.

The unnamed accused is the subject of a rape case that the police have filed. Additionally, the strict Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) has been used.

A special team has been put together, according to Ujjain police head Sachin Sharma, to find and apprehend the offenders as soon as possible. “Raped was, as determined by the medical assessment. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established, and we are constantly monitoring this. We urge the public to contact the police if they have any information, according to Mr. Sharma.

When asked where the offence was committed, the officer responded, “This is being investigated. The details would be available soon.

“The girl was unable to provide us with a precise location of origin. She may be from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, though, based on her accent,” he continued.

The horrific tragedy has once again highlighted Madhya Pradesh’s appalling track record on violence against women.

The most cases of women and girls going missing between 2019 and 2021 were recorded from Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Additionally, according to data from the National Crime Records Bureau, Madhya Pradesh reported the most instances of rape in the nation in 2021—6,462. Of those, crimes against kids accounted for more than 50% of them. This amounts to 18 rapes every day.
