After seeing flaws in a train coach’s chassis, vigilant railway workers in Tamil Nadu averted a huge catastrophe. The afflicted coach was promptly removed off the Kollam-Chennai Express by the officials. The news was released a few days after a severe train accident in Odisha left 275 people dead and 1,200 wounded. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been urged to take over the investigation into what caused the Balasore tragedy, which is now the deadliest crash in Indian history.

The cracks in Tamil Nadu were found on Sunday night at the Sengottai Railway Station during a rolling stock inspection.

Southern Railway officials told NDTV that a fracture was discovered in the S3 carriage of train No. 16102 yesterday (On Sunday) at 3:36 pm while it was entering Sengottai station in Tamil Nadu.

The train left the station an hour later, at 4.40 p.m., with the defective coach removed and a new coach attached.

The Madurai Division of DEM will thank and reward the workers for their vigilant watch, according to a statement from the Southern Railway.

Indian Railways restarted operations on the disaster-affected track on Monday, 51 hours after the quadruple train catastrophe in Balasore, Odisha.

Around 7 o’clock on June 2 in the Balasore district, which is around 250 kilometres south of Kolkata and 170 km north of Bhubaneswar, the tragedy happened close to the Bahanaga Baazar station. It involved a freight train, the Bengaluru-Howrah Express, and the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express.
