Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Daniel Vettori believes that now that his side has mastered the art of establishing totals, it’s time to brush up on their chasing ability as the Indian Premier League season comes to a close. SRH are presently third on the table, having won five of their last eight games. Four of the five victories have been achieved when batting first. “We have been successful in setting totals, and now we have to look at how well we are chasing,” Vettori said following the 35-run loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru here on Thursday night.

After deciding to bat, RCB scored a difficult 206 for 7, and then limited SRH to 171 for 8.
The objective seemed fairly achievable for a side that had already scored 250 runs three times this season, but a rare failure of the top and middle orders cost the hosts dearly.
“Obviously, disappointing one where we have come from in the last four games; we played some really good cricket and even though we lost, you could see if we had some wickets at the back end, we could have still chased it down,” Vettori said during the post-match news conference.

“Those early wickets shattered everything. We felt confident in our ability to achieve the necessary scores. We thought 206 was a fantastic score, but we definitely let a few runs on the pitch. However, the gang was confident based on previous performances.

“We also knew it was being set up by the openers and how good they have played, and today they had an off day and that’s cricket,” he went on to say.

The former New Zealand cricketer believes there are no easy games in the IPL.

“Unfortunately, we did not receive backing through the intermediate phases. It’s a terrible loss, but we know that every club in the IPL can beat any team. “There are no easy games at all,” Vettori stated.

The coach believed that the job of an anchor had little relevance in high-scoring contests.

“I believe the wicket was still quite excellent. The men that came off stated it’s a scoring surface. Anchor role while chasing 207 is difficult to come by; you must be proactive. It might be difficult for some people to sit along and perform the role of anchor.” RCB all-rounder Swapnil Singh, meanwhile, was happy that his team had broken its six-match losing skid.

“The experience was valuable, but winning the game was more essential. When you win a game, the team’s tempo alters. It feels fantastic. He stated, “We missed the last two games by a small margin, but there is still a long way to go.”

Swapnil stated that they believed the target was sufficient on this track, despite SRH’s aggressive batting order.

“The ball was coming to a standstill. Our primary goal was to spin the ball and bowl slower than a fast bowler. It helped because we knew they’d come at us hard, and they did.

“Yes, we felt so because the wicket was stopping when we were batting as well, and dew was not there,” added the batsman.
