Assembly elections are scheduled for the end of the year in the BJP-ruled state of Madhya Pradesh, according to Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

She was speaking at a rally in Gwalior, the hometown of former Congress leader and Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, where she also paid homage to Rani Laxmibai, a renowned independence fighter.

She claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi referred to top opposition figures who command respect as thieves. Political civility has suffered, according to her.

She claimed that the PM’s comments regarding the burning in Manipur came 77 days after a video showing terrible abuse of women.

In the past 40 days, Priyanka Gandhi has made two trips to Madhya Pradesh.

On June 12, Priyanka Gandhi gave a speech at a rally in Jabalpur to launch her party’s campaign in Madhya Pradesh. She promised to implement five programmes if the Congress won the state’s election, including providing women with $1,500 in financial aid each month, providing free electricity up to 100 units, and bringing back the Old Pension Scheme (OPS).

She also made fun of former Congressman-turned-BJP leader and Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, accusing the Shivraj Singh Chouhan administration of being corrupt and unable to create jobs.

After the 2018 state elections, the Congress established the government in MP.

However, in March 2020, Jyotiraditya Scindia-aligned MLAs defected from the Congress and joined the BJP, causing the Kamal Nath-led administration to fall within 15 months and opening the door for Chouhan to take over again.

When Gwalior was a princely kingdom, the Scindia dynasty presided over it.
