Following a landslide, a vital route in Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district washed away, leaving at least 300 passengers stranded.
The Lipulekh-Tawaghat road washed away 100 metres after a major portion of the hill crashed on it, leaving the travellers stuck in Dharchula and Gunji, 45 kilometres above Dharchula.

“A landslip on the borders of Pithoragarh near Lakhanpur has washed away 100 metres of the Lipulekh-Tawaghat motor route, which is 45 kilometres above Dharchula. According to the district government and quoted by news agency ANI, 300 persons are stuck in Dharchula and Gunji.

The route is anticipated to be opened for traffic after two days, according to reports.

The state’s Almora, Bageshwar, Chamoli, Champawat, Dehradun, Garhwal, Hardwar, Nainital, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, Tehri Garhwal, Udham Singh Nagar, and Uttarkashi districts have received a dust storm and thundershower warning from the weather service.

The police have also issued a warning and requested that all pilgrims remain in secure locations.

“Pilgrims please stay at safe places, do not travel unnecessarily, and park vehicles at safe places, landslides/geo. Travel only when the weather is clear,” they added.

“All the devotees coming for Yamunotri and Gangotri Dham Yatra are requested to plan their journey after taking the weather forecast, keep rain cover, umbrella and woolen/warm clothes with them during the journey,” they added.
