Eknath Shinde, the chief minister of Maharashtra, claimed on Monday that while opposition parties only consider deposing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, “sheep and goats” are helpless against a lion in the jungle.

Speaking from Shrinagar to a Hindi news channel, Mr. Shinde remarked, “Sheep and goats cannot band together to fight a lion in a jungle. I will not call opponents vultures. The jungle would be ruled by a lion since lions are always lions.

The Shiv Sena leader responded, “The opposition only thinks about defeating Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” when asked about the opposition parties uniting to confront the BJP-led NDA alliance. I can’t find any evidence of resistance fighting.

Maharashtra elects 48 representatives to the Lok Sabha, which is the second-highest number in the nation behind Uttar Pradesh’s 80 representatives.

In response to a question about the Maharashtra NDA’s standing, Mr. Shinde stated, “Since Ajit Pawar decided to join us, my government (the BJP-Shiv Sena-Ajit Pawar group of NCP) enjoys the support of 215 plus MLAs. The government is not under danger.

We are working for the people, Mr. Shinde declared, declining to mention his predecessor Uddhav Thackeray. People will choose between having someone work for them and having someone sit at home.

When asked about the claim that the Enforcement Directorate targets opposition camp leaders, Mr. Shinde responded, “The Enforcement Directorate takes action against those who are suspected of having engaged in corrupt practises. It doesn’t only annoy people like that.
