Indian Student Who Was Stabbed In US Gym Dies

According to the university where he was enrolled, Varun Raj Pucha, a 24-year-old Indian student who was stabbed at a fitness center in the US state of Indiana, passed away from his wounds.
On October 29, at the public gym, Jordan Andrade, 24, stabbed Varun, a computer science student at Valparaiso University, in the head with a knife for reasons that are still under investigation by the police.

“We announce Varun Raj Pucha’s passing with heavy hearts. Valparaiso University, a private university in Valparaiso, India, close to Chicago, released a statement saying, “Our campus community has lost one of its own, and our thoughts and prayers go out to Varun’s family and friends as we mourn this devastating loss.”

After the attack, the attacker was taken into custody and is being charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

On November 16, there will be a memorial and remembrance service on campus for Varun.

In August 2022, Varun, who was pursuing an MS in computer science, departed for the US. He was supposed to finish his course next year and head back home to Khammam, Telangana.

After the incident, according to his cousin, his condition did not get better, ABC7 Chicago reported.

Before passing away, he was unconscious at a Fort Wayne hospital and could only move one side of his body.

“It’s very difficult because no one would expect this kind of situation for their kids. He has many dreams. He came with many dreams, to financially and emotionally support his family,” Balleboyne said.

Through GoFundMe, the North American Telugu Society had raised USD 90,000 for Varun’s family by Wednesday.
